Dr. Death walks the corridors in his long coat – the grim reaper dressed as a physician. A dark-humored reminder that no doctor, no pill and no technology can promise us forever, because the number of our days is written from above.
The Torah gives the doctor permission to heal – "v'rapo yerapei" (Exodus 21:19) – and at the same time reminds us who the true Healer is: "Ani Hashem rof'echa" – I am Hashem your healer (Exodus 15:26). The Kabbalists teach that real health begins with the soul, and that the one who lives with purpose is not afraid of the angel of death.
