Waiting for Redemption Together: The Messiah, Peace and the End of Babylon

For thousands of years, Jews have ended prayers and holidays with the same hope: next year in Jerusalem. Behind those words is a dream that is much bigger than one city. It is the dream of a world without Babylon.

What is the redemption?

In Jewish tradition, the days of the Messiah are a time of peace, justice and knowledge of God. "The earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea" (Isaiah 11:9). It is not the victory of one nation over another. It is the healing of the whole world.

The end of Babylon

The prophets describe the fall of Babylon as the beginning of redemption. In our language, Babylon falls when people stop serving the towers and start serving life again: when homes are for living, not for speculation, and when people matter more than bricks.

Living with hope now

Waiting for redemption does not mean sitting still. Every act of kindness, every honest deal, every welcoming smile between a Jew and a non-Jew is a small step toward that world. The redemption is built from small things.
